Great to learn soldering
Love this project to teach soldering to people as it has enough parts for a person to get comfortable with soldering. Some projects have much fewer which doesn't give a new user enough practice to get fully comfortable with it. Would highly recommend for anyone learning how to solder.

Well made.
I've ordered and built several of these to give to friends for Christmas. Putting the two halves together was a little tricky, but they all worked when I finished them and the soldering is a lot of fun. One suggestion, instead of having people screw the battery holder to the base, just include some double sided foam tape to secure the battery. It's a lot easier. Those little screws are very hard to manipulate.

Not for beginners
The skill set for this is certainly beginner soldering level, but with incomplete and incorrect instructions, no available instructional video, and poorly identified parts, this will take quite a bit of effort that should not have been necessary. Unless you have the resister color codes memorized, you are going to have to look them up to see which is which - they are not identified in the kit. Even then, the included pieces do not exactly match the packing list OR the instructions, either the instructions here in this Amazon listing or the ones that came in the box or the ones they emailed me when I asked for them. Close, but not exact. And the parts are cheap - the included on/off switch did not work, so I just soldered the switch closed and will remove the battery or unplug it to turn it off.In the end, fun and it got me back in touch with my younger days of kit-building, but it is going to take as long to figure out what to do with the mess of pieces than to actually solder it together. But, it's done and works and I'm not sorry I got it, but won't do this level of price/quality again.

Buyer beware
This DIY kit comes with no assembly instructions. Just a bunch of parts. Don't try to assembly this unless you are well versed in LEDs and capacitors. Soldering is easy, battery holder is very cheap and doesn't hold the batteries easily. Typical China crap.

Not as good as other vendor's kits
The same design as other vendors, since they all come from China. This kit, however, was missing the 330 ohm resistors. The required 10,000 ohm resistors, were in the kit. Also, the timing capacitor was 22 ufd, unlike the 47 ufd capacitor supplied in kits from other vendors. I tried the 22 ufd caps and found they increased the speed to the point where you rarely saw the LEDs flash blue. I'm replacing the 22 with a 47 ufd. I purchased 3 each kits and all had the same deficiencies. After putting the kits together, and fixing the problems, they did work. But, all these issues, increased the cost, and required ordering additional parts.

Assembly instructions were confusing or non-existent.
The paperwork which came with the kit included only a schematic and a parts list. There were no step-by step assembly instructions. The schematic and parts list called for 22uf capacitors, but the capacitors actually provided were 47uf. The assembly instructions found in the Amazon description of this kit were sketchy and confusing. Nevertheless I was successful in assembling the kit, and it worked fine.

There are better kits on Amazon.
1st kit that came had missing parts. Second kit was fine. No spare parts of any kind. Here are my main reasons for a low rating:- missing parts/no spare parts- PC boards do not fit together at all - much sanding was required- instructions are poorly translated (polarities of LEDs are misrepresented, color bands on resistors are faded/chipped off - typical Chinese kit quality, no pictures, resistor IDs are incorrect on instructions- battery holder cannot sit flat against PCB without modificationAside from all of those things, it does come with a USB cable to power it which is nice to save batteries. It can even run from a PC's USB port or phone charger. Not all kits have this cable. The better made kit is one from DingDong, but it does not have a cable.

Fools made the pcb OPPOSITE of convention for LED polarity!
Pretty disappointed with the documentation that came with this one. Incredibly they also made the pcb wrong (at least opposite what is convention for LEDs) the square through holes are for the positive lead but the rest of the world does it the opposite! Ruined half the tree, not about to waste more time trying rework all those LEDs.
