A GREAT BOOK!
This book is a great book for anyone wanting to review basic topics in Modern Physics. Its 14 Chapters consist of the topics of Special Relativity (Basic concepts of Time Dilation/Length Contraction, Lorentz Transformation, Relative Velocities, and Relativistic Momentum and Energy), Blackbody Radiation, The Photoelectric Effect, The Compton Effect, Bohr's Model of the Atom, The deBroglie Relation describing particle wavelengths, Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, along with a chapter on some important Differential Equations used in Quantum Physics, Schrodinger's Equation, and a final chapter on Probability Calculations and Expectation Values for locating objects, determining their position, momentum, energy, and the quantum uncertainties in each. The author does an awesome job presenting key concepts clearly along with the most important equations used in analyzing each. One thing that stood out was how meticulous and detailed the author was in solving the equations needed in analyzing these topics. Example problems come with complete detailed solutions. Problems are given for the reader to solve. (Also with complete solutions shown in the back of the book- an essential feature for someone doing a Self-Study.)Dr. McMullen is a great teacher! A great book! I highly recommend it!

Very Nice Workbook that I am Going to Use In My Class
I read through this book and its perfect for a group work session in a physics class. I have used this author's books before and you just have all the students buy the book and bring it to class. I am going to do this in my fall class... I think the students will love it.

It does what it says it will do..
Ver easy to follow. It is repetitive, so if you follow along, you pretty much memorize the concepts. The concepts are the confusing part, not the math. The suggested process to analyze related problems greatly reduces the complexity, or rather the confusion, related to what is being analyzed. I have an engeneering background but I have been away from math for 40yrs or so. I found the math/physics extremely easy/basic to follow. I wanted to be able to study relativity text to understand the deeper concept of relativity without learning or knowing how to solve the complex math. This book certainly took me to that level.
