1st full length release from Atlanta-based sistersLarkin Poe has supported as well as performed in backing band for Elvis Costello / previously backed Conor Oberst / Performing as backing band for Kristian Bush (Sugarland) on The Today Show on 10/27'We have a very colorful family history,' explains lead singer/guitarist Rebecca, 23, who also plays mandolin and violin. 'There were a lot of creative, hot-headed, and intelligent branches that went against the grain in our family tree. Our paternal grandfather suffered from schizophrenia, while our great, great, great, great grandfather, Larkin Poe, was a Civil War wagon driver turned historian and a distant cousin to Edgar Allen Poe. Growing up with their crazy stories definitely shaded our perception of normal. As artists, I think some of those innate eccentricities, passed down from generation to generation, have been even further exaggerated in us!' Megan, 25, who contributes lapsteel and dobro to the line-up, chimes in, 'As sisters, we just wanted to pick a band name that had familial significance, so we decided to tip a nod to our ancestors and take on the name Larkin Poe.'The Atlanta-based sisters celebrate that unique genealogy and their own eccentricities with their debut full-length album, 'Kin'; on RH Music, produced by Chris Seefried (Fitz and the Tantrums, Lana Del Rey) in Los Angeles and Damien Lewis (Rihanna, Rita Ora) in Atlanta. After years of being fiercely independent (i.e., they self-released five EPs and toured for three years without label support), they decided to sign with RH Music. 'We signed with RH Music because they believe in our authenticity. They understand that we make music for no other reason than our need to make music and want to support that need,' explains Megan. 'They see our passion!' Others are clearly taking note of this passion as well, including Elvis Costello and Kristian Bush (of Sugarland). Both legends have taken the sisters out on the road to serve both as opening bands and backing bands; with Elvis Costello calling them 'gifted instrumentalists,' while Bush praises 'the poetry they make with their strings, words, and voices.'With years of domestic and international touring under their belts, and a large and loyal fan base already in place, the sisters want their fans to know that 'Kin' is truly their coming of age project. 'This is by far the most genuine piece of work we ve ever released as a band,' says Rebecca. 'It s our story, written in our way, played and sung by us. We call it roots-rock'n'soul. It's our whole heart and soul mashed up into a musical form.'

The Lovells' first full-length LARKIN POE album does not disappoint!
Wonderful album full of Southern soul peppering healthy, tasty bites of bluesy folk. With high production sweetening up their already sweet voices, Megan and Rebecca have never sounded sharper or more sonically pleasing. Their songs often dabble into emotionally dark areas, but many of those songs are willfully sung with a light heart. If you are a fan that owns any of their prior EPs, this album should not disappoint. If you have yet to enjoy their music, do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of KIN so you do not miss out on one of 2014's best albums.Of course, KIN is offered as a CD (which I purchased originally), but don't forget there is a vinyl version of the album that is pure delight in it's larger-sized glory (which I also purchased when it came out later last year). And of course, the kind folks at Amazon provide a free digital mp3 copy of the album when you purchase purchase of either the CD or vinyl.

Larkin Poe Hits It Out Of The Park With "Kin"
Wonderful collection of songs by these very talented sisters. There's an ease to their melodies (which are all original) that gets into you, yet with a sophistication and complexity to the songs that keeps them interesting through multiple listens. Not a weak cut on the entire disk, "Dandelion" is a particular favorite of mine for it's layers of rich, intricate sounds and "Overachiever" is, quite simply, a stunningly gorgeous ballad! Definitely treat yourself to "Kin"!

Very disappointing...
I bought this album on a whim after reading all the positive reviews and reading about the band's history and I have to say I was very disappointed. I was hoping to find a band that rivaled Lily & Madeleine but instead found something more akin to The Pierces. All the promise of previous EPs (I bought those as well) are completely wasted on this full length release. Instead of the folk-pop sound, the girls' sound has been revamped to sound more like Pink or Kelly Clarkson. While each of the previous EPs contained weak songs in term of lyrics, most of the lyrics on the full length read like bad Jr High poetry. It seems the girls were more interested in pop appeal than really working on their craft as songwriters. Here's to hoping they go back to their roots on the next release and leave this over-produced garbage behind. Atleast we have a new Lily & Madeleine album to look forward to.

Outstanding New Talents
I was introduced to these lovely ladies at a recent Elvis Costello concert. Elvis had Larkin Poe open for him and then they came back and played some of his greatest hits. They also sang backup vocals and played on the recently released The New Basement Tapes. Give them a shot. You'll thank me later.

excellent concert five stars for EC and Larkin Poe
Saw Larkin Poe in Cambridge as support act to Elvis Costello; excellent concert five stars for EC and Larkin Poe. On the strength of that bought the album Kin and have not been disappointed. Great tunes and lyrics; excellent musicianship and superb harmonies from the two sisters. I cannot recommend this album highly enough - its not live album but has the energy of one.
