Great book for pre-travel to Egypt information! Excellent history, cultural norms, what to expect, and plan for. Made the trip better. I recommend all who plan to visit Egypt read this and do research to make the most of your travels to this fascinating country.

I liked the book. I wish the recipes were in color.

Having been to Egypt a number of times, I found this handy guide an excellent provider of info on customs and culture. However ... my visits were all before I had this recent purchase.Nevertheless, I learn even more about Egypt’s culture from thoroughly reading this guide and strongly encourage other future travelers to do the same BEFORE going to Egypt or nearby countries. Everything you want to know about what to wear, how to act during your stay, the people and their customs, things to take on your trip and soooo much more!Fortunately, I made many Egyptian friends on my trips and got first hand information from them but I would have loved to have had this guide prior to my travels.Good investment and very reasonably priced.

The book gives no publication date, though it states it is frequently updated. Not. The president of Egypt changed nearly 10 years ago but the book still references the previous president as the current president. Clearly this book is not kept up to date.

This book is very handy for the price, presenting interesting information on the culture of Egyptians. I have been to Egypt 3 times and will be returning again soon. I find this book to be reflective of what you can encounter in Egypt and please have an open, informed mind before you arrive there.The book is broken into chapters:1 - Land and People2 - Values and Attitudes3 - Customs and Traditions4 - Making Friends5 - Private and Family Life6 - Timeout7 - Travel, Health, and Safety8 - Business Briefing9 - CommunicatingAlthough a small, relatively brief book, I would recommend this to anyone visiting Egypt. It will make you aware of how things are there.I would also highly recommend Culture Shock: Egypt by Susan L. Wilson, which has even more dept and aspects covered. It was that book that I read before I went to Egypt the first time and that really helped me to open a window of the culture there.

Cute, but not outdated. Mubarak is no longer the president, and other things like that. Politics is good only for historical study, but the driving section is dead on! I read this before going to Egypt over a year ago, and found it really helpful.

I'm so glad that I got this book before my trip to Egypt in May 2022. It provides you with knowledge about the culture, politics and history of the country that adds to your experience! Also covers customs, food and some basic Arabic phrases. Highly recommended if you're interested in visiting Egypt.

This book has it all --history, cultural aspects, politics, personal dealings.

Bought this after a week in Sharm in December last year. Fantastic holiday, but I realised whilst there how very little I know about the region and the culture and history. Just the colonial style history from school in the 1970s which was very very biased and not very accurate in reality. This book is an easy read and helped me to understand more about this beautiful stark part of the world on a regional basis and the way that it has evolved - in a condensed way easy for me from the uk to follow but obviously very over simplified for such complex matters. However wetted my appetite to read more and learn more, see more, experience the wonderful hospitality more and appreciate how much we take for granted and have at home. Highly recommend this book for some easy reading and the bias does not appear to be based in the British sense of how the rest of the world was taught to us in the 70’s 🤷🏼‍♀️

Interesting book

Unfortunately not exactly what i was looking for whilst I was in Egypt, but enjoyed reading about the culture anyway
