Becoming his friend was a mistake she’ll live to regret.Face Value is the tragic story of real-life cover girl Marla Hanson, whose fledgling career is ended abruptly after a vicious knife attack leaves her face scarred for life. Up-and-coming model Marla Hanson (Cheryl Pollack, Pump Up the Volume) moves to New York City to fulfill her dream of becoming a top fashion model. A chance meeting with photographer Eric Warner (Dale Midkiff, Pet Sematary), opens doors to opportunities that Marla’s only dreamed of…until now. With her star on the rise, Marla decides to move out on her own. Eric introduces her to makeup artist, Steve Roth (Kirk Baltz, Resevoir Dogs), a man with a room to rent and a dark, growing obsession for her.As Marla’s relationship with Eric blossoms, Steve becomes increasingly jealous. He tells Marla he wants more from their relationship, but she refuses his overtures. Steve’s continued harassment leads Marla to break her lease and meet with him one final time to retrieve her security deposit. It is this last fateful meeting that will change the course of her life forever.

Realiastic and thought-provoking.
For the period depicted, the film was realistic and thought provoking. Since it is based on a true story, it might spur someone on to research the real model and learn more about the behind the scenes story. Without intending to, the film also shows that we are not raised with good judgment about people who are predators. We fail to ignore our intuition, especially women, and allow ourselves to get hurt. The film should have a note in the post-logue to read the work of Gavin De Becker: The Gift of Fear; Protecting the Gift, etc. These would be an excellent way to avert similar danger. Most people are still unaware that violent crimes are primarily accomplished by people we are at least acquainted with, and not the stranger scenario that much of the old advice is based on.Restoring trust between people requires that we face hard realities that unhealthy people will cross our path, and the path of our children. Denial abut this, and lack of preparation for when that happens, is a recipe for harm.

Thought this was a very good movie showing how the modeling industry preys on unsuspecting women who try to get into the business and how one sided the media can be to destroy someone.

Dull and weak
I was very disappointed with this film, especially as I mostly enjoy true life films, which this is because I have checked. There wasn't enough sensationalism for me. I thought it was very weak. The story starts off different to when it goes back in her memory. It's about a model who gets attacked by men who have been hired by her landlord to slash her face to take away her prettiness.

Face Value - Worth a look!!
I guess in the modelling world, especially if you are relying heavily on your face, to make money, especially a lot of it, can be a very risky business indeed. This girl, did just that and ended up paying the price. However, it has also taught her, that she had many other talents/qualities, that she never knew she had and ended up using them to her advantage. Which goes to show, ones own inner strengh can get you through almost anything......

Dreary
I was really disappointed in this film. I think the treatment given to this true story was very shoddy and the skills of some talented actors are seriously under-used. Nothing was really dealt with in any depth and even her fight for justice felt like a 'film by the numbers' instead of what could have been a serious impact film regarding stalking and obsession.
