Ok at low volume, but high distortion at mid-volume.
If you need only a tiny bit of amplification, this device works just fine. It comes with headphones, microphone and an extension cord for the microphone. However, if you or someone else is truly hard of hearing, the amplifier is very disappointing. When the volume is more than 25% sounds and voices becomes distorted, like an underwater speaker, making the TV or speaker incomprehensible. I work with hard-of-hearing clients and bought this after my old Realistic (RadioShack) pocket amplifier stopped sending sound to both ears. My client's' first reaction was "this is terrible." By reducing the volume under 20%, I was able to get some use out of it, but I plan to toss it in the trash as soon as I can find something better.

It is not a directional mike. Does not amplify a female voice well IMO.
Why I bought it: spouse has condition that causes a a whispering voice/mumble, I have hearing damage from exposure to jet engine noise. It is a wired product. She sits on the couch, I sit in recliner, She picks up the little black box and whispers into it. I wear the ear bud and mostly understand. why I don't like it: the mike is NOT directional at all; I hear the clink of silverware, or the waitress's voice two tables away better than I can hear the wife. Volume control goes from OK to distorted way too quickly. Not a 3 a star product.
