Great for beginners
My 11 year old and I are trying our hand at whittling a bit and these blocks are great. They are small enough for him to manipulate easily and soft enough to cut easily.

Great option for whittling
Great basswood pieces for carving. I used them to whittle and the variety of sizes is great and leaves you with options for all your ideas. I used one of the small pieces to carve this wizard.

The individual pieces are small
Balsa is balsa and everything about this balsa is good. My only recommendation is instead of offering ony 2 good size carving pieces. I'd would rather the 17 pieces not be cut so small, but, rather be less then 19 but bigger for carving.
