Not worth the money
Lasted a few months before it started to malfunction- the alarm sounded even though there was no water leak. A waste of $20.

Works great for me
My law office has a gas water heater and this alarm is placed on the floor about 9 inches from the base of the water heater to detect any leaks that might develop. Runs on 1 9 volt battery. Has 2 metal rods running along the outside of the case and when water touches the metal rods, since water conducts electricity, the alarm goes off. Wish it were louder alarm, but it is the loudest I have found of these types of alarms and it is loud enough for us to hear it if it goes off. If you intend to use this type of alarm in a remote area not normally occupied, such as a basement or garage, I would recommend you not get this unit and instead get one of the more expensive units that alarms to a sensor in a less remote area of your house, with a much louder alarm. Bear in mind any alarm is worthless if it alarms but cannot be heard. But this alarm is fine for us as the water heater for my office is in a closet off the main hall which is traveled quite often. Very happy with it. And by the way, we tested it by simply placing it under a bathroom faucet and running some water on it.
