A little misleading...
I'm gonna be harsh here because this product didn't exactly match my expectations...When it said it comes with "art lessons" I thought it was gonna have a lot of info. But it turns out you get one image to reproduce and you watch 4 videos on techniques for producing that one image. Can you transfer those skills to other self-initiated projects? Sure. But I thought it was going to cover perhaps a few more elements of drawing "Nature" vs one specific thing. You get access to the videos via a code on the box. If you don't have a code the lessons cost $20 -- so obviously you'll just want to buy this kit so that you get supplies along with the lessons. But you can't access other lessons other than the ones specific for this kit. ...So I hope you learn everything you want to know in the few videos you get access to -- or be willing to buy more kits/supplies.Also the box is very large for what it contains. Nice for a gift presentation perhaps, but not practical for me to keep these supplies in. So I would pitch the box... except the code you need to get free access to the lessons is on the box -- so don't throw it out too quickly. The colors included are all centered around the one art project rather than being a nice well-rounded "Nature" set. Though that said it definitely is more well-rounded than the Level 1 set which didn't even include green! Fortunately I got the Level 1 and this set so I now have an okay range of Naturey colors. ...You'll need to buy more/other sets to really have a good supply of varied colors.I really wanted this set since it included the artist roll. It has space for most of the supplies that come in this set, but if you want to add in more pencils from other sets it won't fit all the pencils. Also, it has a natural fold and the drawing pad can actually fit inside, but the way to clasp it together so that it doesn't open requires you roll the thing up smaller than the pad/grid -- so you can't store those items together with your pencils -- or you can and just don't really close the roll. I imagine this is perhaps a typical thing for artist rolls? But I was a bit miffed by this.3 stars because I feel like I was misled and a bit let down. More stars if you know what you're getting and getting into. If you find this on a good sale I say it's worth it, but I wouldn't pay full price (ps. I've seen this on sale for $18).

Beginners Would Enjoy This, But As A Seasoned Artist, I Enjoy The Jumpstart
I have hit some snags this past year. Lots of deaths and other unpleasant challenges have left me feeling unable to access my creative side a lot. I saw this art kit and others from the prismacolor series and decided to give it a try.PACKINGThis set is packed very well. There is formed plastic trays that hold everything in place and protect it from breakage and being ruined even in shipping.VIDEOOnce you open this box up, you will see that there is a coupon on top of the box lid on the inside. You use that code on the sticker and type it into the coupon code area as if you are buying the program. It will not charge you and you will have access. The video is good and will give you basic information to create the picture that the artist is creating. All of the materials are in the box that you will need. My only issue with this is that the videos to my understanding are not downloadable and I need to have them available when we do not have internet as that is when I do a lot more artwork. Outages and cabin art sessions where there is no internet make the lessons useless to me some times.MATERIALSThese materials are all you will need to make the exact picture that you see on the cover and that the artist is showing how to do. If you have more than one set of these, you will have more than one pencil in some colors, but as a colored pencil artist, that is a good thing.IF you are a seasoned artist, you can easily add on with your own flourishes and extra colors and pencils for greater effects spinning off of the basic lesson. That is what I use it for. It has been very effective to help me out of my slumps.QUALITYThese materials are professional artist quality. When you get this set, you are not only getting good art instruction for a basic drawing, you are also getting professional artist materials to start adding to your collection. The paper is decent and the materials are great quality and performance.PHOTOI wanted to get this drawn up for you but the last few months have been rocky and I have not been able to finish the projects I planned to. I will update when I do though.THE BOTTOM LINEI find that this set is excellent for basic artists just starting out but also for seasoned artists like me who need a boost through some dry times.MY RATINGFIVE STARS. I am really glad to have some of these sets. This is one of the ones I like best so far. I am really glad I got this one and have to say for what you get, the price is really fair.

Prismacolor is awesome
I have always really loved Prismacolor, and was so happy when I saw this series of sets. I've done the math, and it's a really good value for the money with how much you get in each set. All of the products inside were really high quality and performed great. I really like the grid, it's so great for beginners, and is a thicker plastic than others I've seen. The digital instructions were comprehensive and perfect for any beginner. I like that it really has all you need to get started. This would be a great gift for a beginner or a good value for someone more experienced. (I have found, if you get all three sets in a theme, they will all fit in one box if you throw out the plastic inserts.)My only issues are quite small, but I'll list them here anyway. If you get all three sets in the one theme, or all six sets in total, you will get a lot of repeat colors, for example, there is a white pencil in each kit. Not a problem if you are only getting one, and they are common colors, that you'll likely go through eventually if you color a lot. But I do suspect they assumed people wouldn't get them all, or they would have avoided having six of so many colors. The instructions are a single piece of paper folded in half, with stuff you can look up for free. Most of it is digital, which shouldn't be too much of a problem for most nowadays. Although the digital instructs are really very good, they teach stuff you can look up for free. I would say, look more at what art supplies are in the box, and choose off of that, more so than the picture it shows you can make. As when you learn to color yourself, you can make any picture you want anyways. The artist roll, if you get one set, has a lot of extra space, but if you get all three sets, can't hold even half the supplies. Which is a testament to just how much you're getting in these sets. I think they could have done without the roll, but it is nice, especially since it's subjective and others may love having it.I still highly recommend these, because the savings on getting this many Prismacolor art supplies is just such a good deal, it's worth it for them alone. They are all such high quality and with such a variety of different supplies, you'll be able to make almost anything you can imagine.P.S. To help those new to Prismacolor avoid a common pitfall, remember that to sharpen a Prismacolor pencil without breaking the core, you need to have a super sharp blade, and use a metal sharpener. The ones provided in each kit worked perfectly for me. Also, don't drop the pencil, or it could shatter the core.

Excellent value for any artist
I had the opportunity to try out all three difficulty levels of these Prismacolor technique kits, and even though I preferred Levels 1 and 2, this one did not disappoint. I love to create art, and mostly work with basic sketching and watercolors. I am not as experienced with colored pencils, so I was really excited to try out this art kit.Basically, this art kit contains everything you need to create a colored pencil drawing. You get:- 18 Prismacolor Premier softcore colored pencils- 2 graphite pencils (2H & 4B)- 1 colorless blender- 1 pencil sharpener- 1 Magic Rub Eraser- 5x7" drawing pad with 15 sheets high quality textured paper- 1 drawing template with a clear grid overlay- 1 artist roll (for pencil storage)- 1 code to watch the class for the project onlineBeing Prismacolor brand, the supplies are HIGH quality, and this kit is an amazing value for the current price of around $20. I was surprised to find an artist roll in this kit, which is used to store pencils and would likely cost around $10 if purchased on its own. I was also impressed with the paper in the drawing pad, which is similar to cold pressed watercolor paper given the weight and texture, and it has quite a bit of tooth to it.In order to watch the course, you have to scan the QR code inside your box. The code will redirect you to the course page and you will have to create an account. Once you have an account, you can enter the included promo code (under QR code) on the checkout page and access your course. The online course is very professionally done and narrated while the in house artist is drawing the picture. You can access subtitles as well. The duration of this particular class is about 1 hour 15 minutes, although sometimes I had to pause to rewatch parts and catch up. The instructions are fairly clear and throughout the class the narrator was encouraging in that your art does not have to look exactly like the artist's and that mistakes are part of the process.Level 3 of the Prismacolor Technique courses focuses on more advanced skills. In this class, the focus is on copying a photograph using the grid method. Additionally, the course teaches coloring your sketch in a lifelike imitation. Of all the Prismacolor Technique courses I have tried, this was my least favorite because of some of the aspects of the course. Mainly, it was really difficult to see the artist's sketch on the screen, because the pencil lines were too light to discern. I think for instructional purposes, it would have been good to have the artist draw in darker lines. Additionally, the course requires you to have access to the reference photograph, which is only included as a digital file, so you need access to a color printer. These are the reasons I gave this product four stars, rather than five. Despite these flaws, it is an amazing value, and a great resource if you are trying to learn more advanced colored pencil skills.Overall, here is a quick breakdown of my pros and cons for this product:PROS- contains everything you need- supplies are very high quality- beautifully packaged- AMAZING value for $20 (current price), especially if you don't have a lot of supplies on hand- beginner friendly - would recommend for ages 14 and up- course is professionally done- very giftable kit for art lovers- can rewatch the course as many times as you want- closed captions available- course is 75 minutes - very doable when you have little timeCONS- in order to get the most out of this course, you will need to print the reference image (requires access to color printer)- sketch lines on video are challenging to make out - makes it hard to follow along- requires internet accessThese kits are available with multiple subject matters and for different skill levels, so you may want to browse to see which one best fits your needs. Of the kits I have tried, I have been impressed by each one. Even though it is the same idea, the kits differ in the approaches and contents. Even with the minor flaws of this product, I would order it again in a heartbeat.

3.5 stars, later lessons not as helpful
I got these sets to try as someone more advanced who has been out of the hobby for a long time to brush up on my techniques. I was hoping there would be more written instruction to this as I cannot do videos like this with my internet service. The first lessons of the set give you a little more written help, but as you go into the 2nd and 3rd lessons, they are very reliable on the videos online. I would rarely be online when I do art, and I really do better with something in writing or pictures in front of me than just watching a video, so regardless of whether I could or not, the later lessons are not quite as good for me.If you are looking at this thinking of getting an entire set and have not seen even a first one yet, the lessons and tools you receive are based only on the one picture they show you. You receive only the colors of pencils or pens you need to do the one picture, etc. All of the items together do make a decent value just for what you do get, but one should not buy these thinking one set will give them an entire set of pencils, etc, to use in the future as a beginner. They do give you different types of things to use, such as watercolor and regular colored pencils, art pens, paint brush pens, etc, so you can get a feel for what you might want to go out and buy. I think these sets are a good idea, but they could be improved on.
