Best flashlight I've ever owned.
I absolutely love this flashlight. I carry it every single day. I've used this so many times and it's also a great backup for defense if you needed it. Shine it on car parts, shine it under the cabinet, double tap the button and blind that assailant coming at you before you knock them out with it. It's a utility tool and a very good quality one at that. I use rechargable batteries with it and they last a very very long time before needing a charge. The programmable feature is great. I didn't want a strobe, so my low it one tap and my high bright light is two taps. Compact enough to carry in a front pocket, robust enough to last in all environments. The bright is super bright and will help find those items in the dark corner of an engine bay, the low is just right for common use all the time.

Well built, bright and the perfect size for carrying or using around the house. Recommended.

An excellent flashlight with an unbeatable feature.
This light is small, bright, water proof, and accepts common 18650 lithium cells(as long as they're button top). None of that stuff is unique, though. There are hundreds of other lights, many of which are significantly cheaper, that can make the same claims. The one thing this streamlight does, that no other manufacturer can claim, is go to dim first and bright second. This should be obvious, but the ability to go straight to the low setting on a very bright light is awesome. What if you need a little light, but you don't want to signal the iss with a blast of high-intensity led in the process? This light will do it.Thank you, streamlight.

A little big but a great light!
I bought this to replace my battered (but still working!) years old Protac 2L. It's definitely on the large side for pocket carry but it's not so bad with slightly baggy pants. The increase in size is worth it for the ability to use rechargeable 18650s instead of having to deal with expensive and sometimes hard to find CR123s. Streamlight needs to update more of their lights to utilize these batteries.I purchased the Streamlight 18650s and a charger base elsewhere as they were substantially cheaper. It is insanely bright. At the high setting this will absolutely blind you momentarily even if reflecting off a table while looking for a dropped screw (ask me how I know). Even the low setting is bright but not blinding.I'm not a huge fan of the 10 tap programming. I typically program my lights to just have high/low so I don't accidentally turn on the strobe function. The pocket clip is also not the best. I know most people will probably belt carry this, but I carry it in my pocket so the clip is in use all the time. I'm not sure why the clip attachment point is so near the head of the flash and not the tail cap like it is on the regular 2L. It just seems like a completely backwards design. It also tends to pull away from the light when I put my hand in my pocket or brush up against something.Overall it's a great light. I would be the perfect light with a better clip and a slightly reduced size.

Another great light from streamlight
Update Nov 9th 2024: it's now been 4 years and I carry and use this light every day in my profession. I work in the Automtive industry. This light has been put through a lot, from regular daily use to many drops to the concrete floor in the shop. The light has also had all automotive fluids on it at some point and no issues. This is still the best EDC light.Another great light from Streamlight. This light is small and compact enough for everyday carry, it is just barely larger in diameter then a quarter (see picture) . The pocket clip hold tight and doubles as a head light, you can clip it on the bill of your hat without having to remove the clip from the light (see pictures) . Great design on the clip A++. I have other brands of lights that will do that, but you have to remove the clip and filp it which it usually not easy and definitely not convenient. This light is vary bright as you can see in the picture and that tree is 50+ yards away. It was pitch black out when the picture was taken. The pictures were taken with my Galaxy Note 20 ultra and it was not in night mode. Camera settings were set to default so no extra enhancements. I will be buying more of these lights. I think this is the BEST LIGHT FOR THE MONEY HANDS DOWN. I purchased model PROTAC 2L-X 88062 500 Lumens, this model comes with 2 CR123A batteries. You can also use one 18650 which I will be purchasing the Streamlight 18650 batteries since they have a micro USB port bulit in to them so no special charger needed. Streamlight also offers a version of the PROTAC 2L-X that has a micro USB port built in to the light for when using rechargeable batteries you don't have to remove them from the light to charge them.

Ergonomics...? Nope.
Sturdy construction, bright illumination, but crap button... The shroud around the on/off button is too tall and makes it very difficult to depress with your thumb. Much more suited as a weapon light than a handheld flashlight.
