Is this birdfeeder easy to clean?

No.  You can soak it in a pail for awhile and sort of chip away to loosen dried crusts and lumps that form but it is not easy to clean. The squirrels seem to like it since they shake the seed down to the bottom floor and hang on the outside and then eat away to their hearts content.  I found ones without any floor slight better since they had to go back down to the ground to eat so it took them a bit more work. Chipmunks just crawled into the cage and ate away and also chewed away the plastic to get more feed.

Question 2

The bird food comes pouring out of the holes and the entire thing empties in a day. Any suggestions?

Sounds like it's broken.  Ours gets emptied due to bird migration.  Starlings are the worst.  Ours works fine.

What is the seed capacity?

It says 1.5 pounds which is about 3 or 4 cups.  Our squirrels and chip monks figured it out in about a week and after that could empty it in half a day.  Because we have an old house that is not completely rodent proof we quit using it, not wanting to encourage the pests.

Question 4

How do you get the rod back in once you fill the tube with seed? we can't get it into the hole at the bottom.  Are we doing something wrong?

So, here is what it sounds like happened.  When you unscrewed the top 'loop/retaining nut', it did not unscrew from the rod, but rather unscrewed the rod from the bottom of the bird feeder.  The top loop/nut piece should have just unscrewed, leaving the rod in the bird feeder.  I'll bet you are having a tough time getting that rod reinserted.  Here's what you should do if you have not already.
1. Dump all of the birdseed out of the bird feeder into a bowl for reuse.
2. Grasp the rod with a pair of pliers and then with your hand or another pair or pliers, unscrew (turn counter-clockwise) the loop/nut and remove it from the rod.
3. After making sure the threaded receiver at the bottom of the bird feeder is free of material (blow it out with air), reinsert only the rod into the bottom of the bird feeder and tighten it down pretty good.  
4. Refill the bird feeder with the saved bird seed and replace the top and retaining loop/nut.  You might consider putting a tiny bit of oil or silicone spray on the loop/nut threads so that next time you have to fill the feeder the loop/nut just comes off and not the whole rod.
