Mike Meyers' CompTIA A+ Guide: Essentials, Third Edition (Exam 220-701) (Mike Meyers' Computer Skills)

A Class Act, Good for the Newbie and the Experienced Tech
Meyers has done an impeccable job on this (exam 220-701 prep) and the companion 220-702 exam book. I also highly recommend the lab companion if you are just trying to ace the Comp TIA tests. You can study as a raw newbie or take the quick road for more experienced techs and plow through the nuts and bolts and knock the test out of the park. Nice graphics, quizzes and a decent cd companion make the journey pleasant. I was not as impressed with his earlier works as they were too full of verbiage and didn't push the topic as well. But I am now a believer. If you are a tech, get this and the 220-702 exam book as I did, and you will sail through the test. There are parts to skip, but he indicates them. If you are a newbie, read from the beginning, pass the tests and do the labs and there you are. I liked the treatment for Windows and that he ONLY covered what was needed for the test. If you want to learn Win7, go get the manual.I am a HUGE Scott Mueller fan. If you want to become an amazing PC tech, read Mueller. If you are trying to plow through the Comp TIA A+ exams, get these books, then go buy Scott Mueller's Repairing and Maintaining PC's 19th edition, and become a pro. And yes, I easily passed the exam.

Mike Meyers' CompTia+ Guide.
This is an excellent text for learning about the hardware and it functions in a PC. It also covers security, Operating systems etc. A very good resource if you want to either pursue an A+ certification or just want to learn all you can about the various hardware, operating system and how they work together to make your computer work. It is well written and keep you interested. The thing I like most it that it is written in a way to teach and not to let you know just how much the author is trying to impress you with his/her knowledge as a lot of Textbooks do. If you want to know the important stuff then this is one great tool to help you in that pursuit.

NOT that great!
To much unneeded info, I past the 220-701 and only read about 5 chapters and did the labsim test out software! I have had very littly desktop support in the past and I was able to pass the test after a one semester class. So I guess btwn the additional software and some of the book, it was good enough. I did take the Network+ at the same time and both classes over lapped a bit too, for what its worth.

No studying
Like Paul Lee stated, this book does not come with access to the answers at the end of each chapter, and Amazon has yet to make this known to potential buyers. Don't waste your money on this version unless what you're looking for is a replacement book, since this book is only meant for teachers and is supposed to be bought directly from the publisher, NOT a reseller like Amazon.

What about self-study???
I hope that Amazon or Mr. Meyers will edit the description of this book. There are "End of Chapter Quizzes." However, there are no End of Chapter ANSWERS. If you go to [...] looking for the answers you'll be redirected to a McGraw Hill site where you'll need to input your "Sales Rep???" I don't have a sales rep. I bought this book on Amazon.com. If you're a self-directed learner choose SYBEX because questions with no answers is like a car with no brakes.
