You can set it with a small set screw but it's just around what you think It has no way to set to a dB without an external tool

how can you tell what level the pot is set at? what range does the pot have?

I have not tested the POT range, but I have created as well as watched about 100 videos about setting this POT to the right level. Remember that this microphone acts as a TRIGGER not as a recording source, so the POT is meant to keep the trigger from going off at background noise levels. When you have it hooked up, sit in the room you want to use it in and be quiet, and trim the POT until the light on the unit *barely* goes out. Test by speaking and the light should "flutter" with the sound of your voice.
