This is a great kit with a lot of beads! You get a lot for the money.

My 4 year old and 6 year old received these perler bead kits for Christmas along with additional beads and template books. My six year old wanted to do hers immediately.I have to admit, the storage compartments were a little hard to open at first, but once you figure out how to do it, it is easy. My kids can even open them up by themselves now for the most part. They only ask me to open one compartment every once in a while. You need to push the tabs over, then pull up. Once you figure that out, it is pretty easy to open. It's not too easy though that you are afraid the compartment will open by itself and spill all of the beads all over the place.My kids love the fact they can do only a portion of the project and then put it away for later without having to worry about the picture messing up.They love the books that were sold separately (Perler Beads 110 Patterns). They have several editions which have 3D patterns included. My daughter has completed an unicorn and elephant that stands up on their own. My son has completed a car that stands on its own. The pictures can be placed under the peg board which is transparent.The kids can put the project away when they are not working on it. So they don't have to be laying on the kitchen table till they finish. They can also take their project on the go. My daughter took it and was working in the car while I was driving somewhere. They have also taken them to Grandma's house.The only downside I see to this kit is it is for the square peg board only. My kids were given additional shaped peg boards (heart, circle, hexagon, & star) which are also transparent. But this kit doesn't provide for using those. However, we put a piece of thick cardboard where the square peg board rests and the additional shapes on top (only one shape at a time). The total thickness of the cardboard and the additional shapes became the same thickness as the square peg boards. So that when the perler beads were installed, the cover fits tight and holds the beads and peg board in place.Since we received this kit, the kids are constantly asking me to iron their projects so they can start a new one. I see buying additional perler beads in my near future.

My daughter (now aged 37) asked if I still had the fusible beads from when she was a kid, and of course I did - tucked away in the 'craft closet' in the garage. Though I still had the forms, patterns and paper, my bead collection was depleted, so I ordered this set. I made the mistake of opening the package upside down, so all the beads slid together. Rather than trying to get them back in their respective cubby holes, I just dumped them all into a large tupperware bowl. My 4-year old granddaughter was able to pick up the beads and place them on the form, planning her pattern as she went along and chattering incessantly about how beautiful it was going to be. When I melted them together with the iron, she ran around with the colorful heart that she had made and showed it to everyone.This craft is great for practicing small motor skills, sorting, and planning and requires kids to sit down and be calm for a while. Though she was done after just 1 form, I'm sure it will hold her interest for longer periods of time as she gets older.

Very good, sometimes the top of the container would stick though, causing some beads to fall out when opened, serves their purpose, below is one of the creations I made (some beads from a different kit but still included some from this one)

This is a good set with a decent spread of colors for different designs. Just make sure you buy a pegboard too as it can be difficult to freehand your creations.
