The Story Continues Past the Anime with the Beginning of the Series' Myth Arc
The third volume of this series finally brings us to the point where the anime from a few years back ended. The events of the second book, with Maou saving Chiho and Emi from Sariel were a few days prior to this novel's opening and now the new adventure begins.Things are settling down to a routine of sorts with the Hero Emilia and the Devil King Maou interacting with their friends and so forth when a surprise arrives express (though only Maou suspects this at first) from Emi's mom, the archangel Laylah. It is a fruit that hatches to release a little girl named Alas=Ramus. The girl calls Maou her daddy and Emi her mommy, much to their chagrin. This wacky scenario is about to get gut-wrenching as sinister forces are in play who want the little girl, and the enormous power that she holds, for their own purposes. Can Emi and Maou protect this new child of theirs, even while not liking being bound to each other?A few things I liked about this volume were that it continues the story past the anime and that it has Emi be badass instead of either helpless or second-fiddle to Maou. Like the second book, it shows her resolve and morality. Despite her sometimes bitchy behavior to Maou (which is kinda justified, really, when you think of it) she is a good person and a true hero. Maou himself continues his character development of the first book in admitting he made bad mistakes before which was nice. I can't wait until he turns more truly good.Chiho is further fleshed out and is shown to be conflicted and a good person at heart even while she wrestles with thoughts that are hard for anyone, especially a teenager, to grapple with. The rest of the cast is given further characterization, Ashiya and Lucifer are kind beneath their exteriors, and Suzuno is the steadfast ally and basically walking encyclopedia to info-dump on us. And also to provide comedic moments with her fish out of water behavior, speech, so forth. This volume finally began to introduce the myth arch of the series as a whole, as I understand from spoilers. I am happy for that, as it gets us from one-off "monster of the week" style adventures, and to a longer and more detaileld story that will lead to a definitive end in a few years (in Japan, a few *more* in America and other English-speaking countries.).Other than the pace feeling a bit off with half the book leisurely and the other half a big rush of confrontations, I think the author did a great job with this installment.

Odd Plot Direction Still Entertaining
Probably one of the weaker storylines in this ever growing series. The character pictured on the cover is perhaps not my favorite and kind of inhibits the strengths of the series I mean since her inclusion less time was spent at Maou's part time job this volume than there was in the last volume. However the trade off there is that we got to get a little more personal with Maou and learn some of his backstory, though we could have learned more as always.I like the novel when its more focused on Maou and his pursuits at his part time job. Raising a child seems like an odd direction to take as that doesnt really seem like it fits in with his goal. I don't know really where the writer is going with this for either Emi's sake or even Maou's sake, and in a larger thing, Chi and her relationship with Maou.In any case the character enables world building to take place and the book remains a page turner so all wasn't lost.

With the addition of Alas Ramus (everything she does is adorable by the way)
Now the story really begins. With the addition of Alas Ramus (everything she does is adorable by the way), the core of our group seems to be assembled now and the ground work for the overarching story can be laid. Things start getting interesting. New power bases are revealed. Some conspiracies are hinted at. There are some fun Rika/Ashiya moments and a little bit of Maou's back story. Like always, it plays at a relaxed pace and suddenly builds up to a climax. If you've watched the anime and wanted more, this is where you start. But I might add, its not a bad idea to pick up the first two volumes. I plan to because there are a few inconsistencies with the recounts here and what the anime portrays.

Fun Read!
This was a fun read. Since I had watched the anime first, I decided to start reading this volume. I have heard that the story is repetitive, but I think the plot here adds another interesting twist in the story. We hear more about Sadao's back story from before he became the Devil King, which I thought was really cool. This was the first light novel I read and I'm pretty satisfied. Since I already saw the anime, I decided to read Vol. 3 so I wouldn't be bored with the repetitiveness expressed by other reviewers and I wasn't. So I would suggest to people who have seen it, to start here.

I loved it
I've been very much enjoying this series. I think I had the most fun so far with this book as it picks up after the second volume and the anime ended so all that is presented in this book is "new" even if you just watched the show. Overall entertaining and makes you want to read more

New character and new development
It's fun seeing how the relationship between our two beloved archenemies starts to slowly, but surely, turn into something else, totally unexpected, by the introduction of a new character that comes to make their lives even more weird. In terms of pace, I'd say it's relatively steady, it's definitely light-hearted, with a few serious and suspenseful moments right by the end. We get to learn a little more of Maou's past and a little about their home world, but still, lots of questions unanswered. All in all, another enjoyable read that leaves you wanting more.

Helps if you watched the anime
Its a fun read and I got sucked into this light novel because of the one season anime. I highly recommend reading the first two books or watching that show to catch up. It gets one star off because I feel the female characters tend to be less nuanced than women in real life

Fun LN if you want to continue on after the anime.
This is my first light novel I've picked up and I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would. The writing style is great and the plot is enjoyable. It picks up right where the anime leaves off which is really convenient.

Disappointing Volume
Only 2 stars for this rather big drop into mediocrity after the very entertaining first 2 volumes. Something of a tired anime episode feeling to it, without much thought given to the plot itself ?It feels like it only existed to drop a few main back story hints, while really 'over egging' the idea of cute baby brings people together.Definitely aimed at the younger teen market and will possibly satisfy them...just.Personally I hope for a return to the style of the earlier volumes and not another tired anime cliche.

The book is awesome! Just finished the anime recently so I had to pick up the novels. It hasn't disappointed me yet! The book was shipped to my friends house as I was away and he has told me that it came on time. If you're a fan of the anime definitely pick this up! (Volume 3 picks up after the end of the anime)
