For PS1 games on a PS2
I bought this so I could play Gran Turismo one and two without losing progress. So does it work? YesFor me, when I inserted the memory card into my PS2 without a game to boot up and selected the card, a prompt to "format memory card" appeared, I'll save you the research and just say here that the PS2 detects right from the get go that it's a PS1 memory card and will format it as such. In the browser it uses the PS1 memory card icon which has a light gray and rounded edged look contrary to the PS2 memory card icon to represent that. I'm on a later model PS2 slim, your experience could somehow vary but I highly doubt it.Pros: 4- Saves PS1 game data played on a PS2 system*****- Arrives unformatted- Very Nice Packaging- Nice plastic materialCons: 3- On mine the actual memory card is a bit loose inside of the case and shakes around, I'd say it's about a millimeter or less thick of a gap but still makes noise. Makes no difference sitting in a memory slot.- Maybe could have more space considering the 3rd party card sizes of PS2 cards, but I'm unsure if there are some technical restrictions that limit such.- The words on the card are a dead givaway that it's an aftermarket card but is covered up and looks just like a PS1 when sitting in the system.Notes:- On the back of the card there's a made in china sticker that leaves no residue when peeled.- The card itself is MUCH whiter than an original grey PS1 memory card.- Some very tiny black speckling in the plastic- To the touch the card is much lighter than an official seagate 8mb PS2 memory card and a 3rd party 128mb PS2 card that I have.- It sits nice and snugly in the memory slot.Final Thought:Obiously I'm not gonna leave a 4 star review on this item because of some extremely small details, I just figured I'd point them out for you all to read. 5 out of 5 stars. This memory card doesn't look out of place in the system by any means and served the purpose I bought it for. I would buy again.

Works Great on PS2!! (PS2 Guide)
This product works just as fine a the official memory cards that Sony produces. Though many people complain about an issue where slimline PS2 consoles do not read the card for formatting on the browser, there is an easy solution to this. What has to be done is, upon opening the package for your card, you must NOT plug it in to your PS2 (to avoid corruption). First, boot your PS2 with your chosen copy of a Playstation 1 disc and wait for the console to load. Once the game boots, you can insert your memory card into the console and save whenever you are prompted to do so. The game will ask you to format the card before saving and will be read by the PS2 browser after formatting with this method.Sony purposefully made the PS2 consoles to not work with unformatted cards that were not made by their companies, rendering 3rd party card like these useless. But that's why I am here to help those get the best out of this product. If the memory card was formatted before trying to use it with the PS2 browser, (such as used in the method above) the console reads it as it would an official Sony card.So format in game BEFORE using it in the PS2 browser! And for those looking for alternate methods of formatting before using with your PS2, if you happen to have an old PS1 console lying around, use it to format the card and save a game before switching off to use on the PS2 console. It should read on the browser just fine. You now have a fully compatible PS1 Memory Card!! (Sweet!)As for the physical properties of the card:-The shape allows it to be stored safely in PS2 game cases using the Memory Card Holder within the box-The card isn't one of those funky shaped clones with odd clear colors and matches the original PSone-The plastic may not feel as solid as the official cards, but much more durable than most 3rd party cards.-Slides into memory card slots with ease. (Most 3rd party cards feel sticky upon insertion/removal)Overall, I give this card a 5 star rating for it has yet to fail me in any real way which would not be my own fault, and I really enjoyed the quality it had to offer, as it surpassed my original expectations by a long-shot. My childhood gaming soul has been revived yet again. Thank you Hyperkin!-Miguel S.P.S. Should you have any questions about my mini-guide on how to use this product, feel free to leave a comment with your questions and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Works in PS2 for PS1 game, insert when prompted
Like all reviews before me, I can verify this works on PS2 with a PS1 game when inserted after being prompted. I'm so glad i read the reviews regarding those instructions. My experience - I recently started playing Driver again and forgot how excruciating the training stage was. Once i passed the test and started playing the game i got about four levels deep and decided to save my game... i couldn't because i had 2 memory cards for PS2 inserted into the slots. So I came here and found this bad boy. Once it arrived i removed a PS2 card and fired up Driver again, passed the Training on the first try and was prompted to SAVE the game. So I inserted the card and on the screen came a box that said card not formatted... then i waited 30 seconds and a new box appeared that said would you like to format? and i chose yes. The game saved perfectly and now i am driving through restaurants and chasing L trains as I should be, whats next? Save the President and win the game of course! Then it's on to Driver 2 and that i will also save on this card. Just follow the instructions and it works perfectly.
