Low Prep Homeschool Art Book
I highly recommend this art book! As a former teacher and current homeschool mom, I wanted an art history book with lots of activities for my first grader. Art is not my strength, so I needed a book that tells me exactly what to do. Every lesson focuses on an artist, gives a brief history, and offers a hands on project (with examples). The book is organized by genre of art, messiness, and difficulty. This is our second year using the book, I do 1 art lesson per week exclusively from this book!

Perfect for hands-on art history
My Husband stopped being interested in art in 2nd grade, when instead of letting him create, they tried to teach art from text books. This book is a fantastic way to introduce artists and art history to children then immediately give them a hands-on experience in a similar style. Each double page features a famous artist with a picture of one of their works, and a short description of their art. The opposite page is a step by step activity to create something that is either the same style, or uses the same materials. There is always a photo or two of a child’s art work. This book can be used for children pre-K and up (including teens), depending on their maturity and interest in art. Some pictures in the book actually feature toddlers, and it is definitely doable in some cases!!Perfect book for homeschooling as well.

Very nice for art teachers!
This book is better than expected. The organization of it is well done with lesson plans, visuals with examples and all in color. Well worth the price!

Black and white!!
I understood that this book would include color illustrations - ONLY the paperback top cover is in color. Although the book seems to have concise descriptions of each featured artist (keeping the child’s attention) and a short easy art activity to learn technique, style, etc… — the only way you are going to completely bring the child into the artist review is through COLOR illustrations.. even the color wheel (key to any artistic work) is in black and white. VERY disappointing! I will keep the book for the content, not the illustrations.
