Great clock only two problems
This is a great clock. After five minutes it updated correctly but I did have to set the time zone. The battery backup is great if you have power outage. The clock is very bright but can be dimmed down at night. One problem is the display will randomly go blank however unplugging the clock and plugging it back in does fix it. Very disconcerting when you wake up in the middle of the night and check to see what the time is and the display is blank. The other problem is the alarm is so quiet I cannot hear it.Correction, discovered that when the clock is updating the display will go blank however after the clock is updated the display will come back on. Now the only problem is the quiet alarm.

Nice Clock, But Be Mindful of Placement
Good size, good information, fairly easy to set up. I like that it shows the full date along with the day of the week. I have two appliances in the kitchen that display the time but none with the date. It has a nice thin sleek look which is appealing also. I wanted a not too small but not too large clock for my kitchen counter just as an informational decor piece and this one works perfectly. One thing though, before purchasing, I read reviews that stated if you are looking up at the clock from a bed side table the numbers aren't as apparent as looking at it from above the clock or straight on. And that is 100% correct. I did test it looking up at it from below and the digital info did not come thru as well. However, It works for me because I bought the clock to use only on my kitchen counter and I am looking down at it. So I did not take an additional star off of the review. I would recommend this clock as long as you are mindful of the placement and locate it where you will be looking down at it or straight on.

Great features, if they actually worked
I bought 2 of these. Feedback based on that fact. First one, I learned the dimming feature (3 levels that control brightness via dimmer button) did not work properly. Clock would stay well lit for about a day and then change on its own to the lowest setting where clock was unreadable (screen seemed black). The dimmer button would not work to change it back. It remained dark and unreadable. Despite resetting the clock and pulling the electric plug to restart, nothing worked to reset/restore to the brightness setting.I liked the features and the size and look of clock enough to try again with a new one, so I bought a 2nd one. (I thought the defects of 1st one was an anomaly, but I was mistaken). The new one was worse. Out of the box, it looked used. It had dings and scratches on the plastic the way a plastic item gets if it has been dropped or smacked around. I didn’t like it, but I could have lived with dings if the clock worked right. But it not only had the same defect with the brightness and dimmer button as the first purchase did, but the time setting functions locked up while setting it and wouldn’t release. I couldn’t even complete the clock set up. Truly unacceptable, especially from the Sharp brand.Don’t waste your money on this one. Function and size of clock would be great, if they actually worked, but they do not.I bought another brand (Baldr) to replace 2nd clock and it seems to be working without issue, so far.

Great bedroom clock except one issue
Clock works great and keeps time by synchronizing with WWVB. Only issue I have is that when it syncs with WWVB the backlight on the clock is switched off so it doesn't interfere with the signal. It stays off for several minutes while this is being done so the clock cannot be read. This happens every night. A few times I have waken up and wanted to know what time it was but the clock was blank. Except when this is happening it is a great clock and the digits are very easy to read.

Incomprehensible control buttons and flakey LED backlight
Usually SHARP makes quality products, so I'm not sure what happened on this one.First one we received the LED backlight didn't work at all. If viewed from just the right angle we could see that the LCD display was functioning, but without the backlight the clock was useless. We returned it, requesting a replacement. The next one arrived in just two days, which was great. The new one took a lot of fiddling around to get the clock and calendar set. The functions of the control buttons are weird and seem to interact in incomprehensible ways. But the backlight did work! At least for a while. Several days in, and now its backlight sometimes turns off for a while, then comes back on. I haven't decided yet if I'll return it too. We'll give it another week and see how it behaves. But if I had it to do over, I'd start off with a different model! One odd "feature" is that although the time can be set by way of the "atomic" WWV radio signal, the calendar is set manually. Why? The WWV signal includes time AND date information. Whose idea was that?*** A FOLLOWUP ***I found out that this model, for some reason, turns off the display backlight while it syncs to the WWV time transmission. It seems to do this at semi-random times late at night.

It's got it all and it all works fine. Outstanding luminescent display!
• It's got it all. Excellent calendar clock with outstanding luminescent display including the full name of the day of the week with NIST WWVB radio time code reception & sync capability. Back up batteries keep the clock & LCD going if/when AC adapter power is unavailable.• Bought it for my brother whose personal situation requires him to keep track of the DAY OF THE WEEK as well as time of day which he was simply unable to do. Problem solved!• The clock sits ~ 12 feet in from a window in his apartment on the 2nd floor of a big, old, hulking 5-story concrete/brick apartment block. To my pleasant surprise, the radio time code sync succeeds quite reliably but, as far as I can tell, only when the window is at least partially open e.g. ~ 2-ft X 2½-ft screened opening at ~ 2 A.M.• Graphics & brightness control are via LCD. Luminance & chrominance are via white, green & blue LED backlighting arrays.• LED backlighting goes off during the radio receive interval (once every 24 hours) or when only powered by battery but you can still read the LCD, up close, via e.g. ambient lighting or flashlight.
