An Introduction to Stellar Astrophysics

This was the required text for my undergrad college class. Clear, concise, readable, etc. As a student, it sparked my interest. So nice to have a book free of bloat (notes about online crap from the publisher, giant margins, lengthy footnotes, excessive pictures, etc.) Nice to carry around a paperback that doesn't weigh 100 pounds. In class we used versions of the formulas that our professor said are a little more modern, particularly regarding radiative opacity (we defined radiative opacity as cm^2/cm^3 instead of cm^2/gram). Overall easy to learn from.

While the content of the book is outstanding, the production quality is terrible. The paper quality is poor and the print is faded and not uniform throughout. Apparently this book was printed "just-in-time". I will not buy any more print books from Amazon online. I will have to see it and hold it in my hands before I spend this kind of money for their books again.

The text begins with the derivation of the basic equations for stellar stability equations followed with a discussion of stellar evolution and several classes of stars. The material is presented clearly and logically. Recommended for those with an interest in mathematics of stellar processes.

The book itself is good, but I bought the digital version and you can not see the math formulas at all. They are tiny and will not enlarge. Since I paid full price I feel cheated by the publisher.

We used this text book for astrophysics class. Chapters are well written and problems are challenging. There are some examples which we found very effective in learning new materials. Those solved problems helped us to score higher in homework and in the test.

The rating above only applies to the eBook version of the this book. Overall, this book explains concepts well, and in a plain style suitable for an undergrad intro course. It is a good reference. i would give it 4-5 stars, and I would recommend having this book. However, buy the hardcover, as the Kindel ebook has many typographic errors not contained in the hardcopy. The pagination of the eBook is also clumsy and makes it much more difficult to read or use as a reference than the hardcover.

This was a good read-study for me, as I am interested in my private study on a universe, finite and spherical, moving through eternity. A constantly changing multi-layered sphere formed by complex violent electrical plasmic storms..Plasma, visible energy in our solar system, brings up my peculiar question: Are ghostly apparitions on earth a visible plasmic energy excited into milky shapeless clouds, visible from unknown after-death energy? Is it related to stellar plasmic energy?

This is a great book describe related topics to stellar astrophysics such as stellar formation, stellar atmospheres, stellar evolution,stellar interiors . I bought this book during my graduate studies to improve my knowledge on the topic. Some topics were new to me but I think this book delivered good sounding knowledge on the most important concepts of related to Stars.

This book is excellent introductory book in Astrophysics which explain the physical meanings in a pretty and easy way and covers most aspects of modern Astrophysics.
