A beginner
I would have liked a few additional traditional recipes. As a beginner, any substitutions for spices are appreciated, ie aji chili powder, sauce, etc. I'm unlikely to attempt the desserts. I liked the introduction and the fact that money is attempting to alleviate the poverty in Peru.

Didn't meet expectations
The overall quality of the book was low. Picture quality, layout, accompanying text were mediocre. I gave it as a gift to my husband as a way to get excited for an upcoming trip to Peru. And he has not picked up the book since I gave it to him. He did not seem impressed.

Great beginner book!
Peruvian Cookbook is indeed a great beginner's guide. I knew nothing about Peruvian foods & I found it most helpful.

Ahi aha!
Having just returned from Peru I was delighted to see the new publication from Gastón Acurio. Some ingredients aren't available, but I find blending one little orange habanero chile with one or two sweet orange bell peppers makes a respectable ahi sauce...key to so many recipes.

Incredible new addition to the now-famous "Planet Cookbook" series. They seem to be getting "better" and "better" all the time..
Excellent intro for beginners - this is part of a series of books by Planet Cookbooks - a beginner's guide to various world-wide countries and their unique cuisines. I have bought and used a few from the series now, as I like the community development cause - but also, I LOVE LEARNING HOW TO COOK NEW FOODS, AND TASTING THE CUISINE OF EXCITING NEW CULTURES... The series of books are ALL excellent with each book offering an introduction to the culture along with delicious, simple to prepare recipes. This book stands out in particular, with a cultural introduction and a handful of straight-forward recipes that introduce the indigenous techniques involved in preparing the cuisine of Peru. I've thoroughly enjoyed the learning experience, as well as the food, and knowing that all the proceeds are being directed to the impoverished communities of this world - it is a win/win all around! Hat's off to the authors, Rachel Pambrun & Linda Johnson on a job well done!

Okay if you're an experienced cook.
It's great that purchase helps a good cause, but I probably won't try any recipes.
