African Violets Back to the Basics: Your Questions Answered

I had originally checked this book out at my library but after going through it, I decided I liked this book good enough that I wanted a copy for myself. It is very helpful and answers all the questions you could have.

I'm a fairly new African Violet grower. I had some questions about how to care for my plants. I've had leaves turn limp and discolored. Is this a normal part of the plant's life? Or am I doing something wrong? I hoped to get the answer from this book, because it says "Back to the Basics". Apparently, I'm even lower than basic, because my question wasn't answered. I've also had problems separating suckers and wanted to know what I'm doing wrong. The book went into detail about propagating plants by leaf cuttings and how to grow your own seeds. There was nothing about techniques for separating suckers.In addition, some questions were 2-3 times, in different parts of the book. It also went into a lot of details about things like ph levels, making your own potting soil and developing new types of violets. I'm not there yet and may never be!So here I am, again at Amazon.com, ordering other books about growing African Violets which will hopefully actually be helpful!

The book answers many important questions and growing violets that are difficult to find.

I have always admired African Violets, but never tried to grow them. I'd heard they were so difficult to take care of. I decided to give it a try. "African Violets - Back to the Basics" is extremely helpful. It's answered all my "beginners" questions. So far, so good my African Violet is doing beautifully.

I ordered the book for my mother for Christmas. She loves it. I was very pleased with the condition of the book. Buying something used with sight unseen makes me nervous, but the book was in excellent condition.

It’s very informative but I was hoping for pictures of different varieties of African violets

Great reference book but I still needed some more "basic" books to understand how to maintain/propagate violets. I would suggest the Sunset "How to Grow African Violets" as a companion purchase.
